Dr Christopher Roberts
Chief Executive Officer
Cochlear Limited

Dr Christopher Graham Roberts has been Chief Executive Officer and President of Cochlear Limited since February 1st 2004. Cochlear (ASX:COH) is the global leader in implantable devices for the hearing impaired, including cochlear implants.

Dr Roberts was a founding (non-executive) Director of ResMed Inc (NYSE and ASX ticker RMD) when the company started in August of 1989. In 1992 he joined ResMed full time and until Jan 04 served as Executive Vice-President and Director. Dr Roberts was closely associated with the listing of the company in the USA (first on NASDAQ then on the NYSE) and the subsequent listing on the ASX. Dr Roberts remains a non-executive director on the ResMed Inc board. ResMed Inc is a leading medical device company treating sleep disordered breathing, including obstructive sleep apnea.

Prior to ResMed, Dr Roberts worked with the Nucleus Group of companies, including positions as: Vice President, Telectronics Inc (cardiac pacemakers); President, BGS Medical Inc, based in Colorado, USA (an orthopaedic company specialising in implantable electrical bone growth stimulators) and CEO, Domedica Pty Ltd, based in Sydney (artificial kidneys). He was also a Vice President of Electro-Biology Inc, based in New Jersey USA, which at that time was a NASDAQ listed orthopaedic company specialising in bone fracture healing.

Dr Roberts was a member of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) – Australia’s peak health advisory body, for the 2003 – 2006 triennium. He is currently Chairman of Research Australia Limited, a non-profit organisation whose objective is to make health and medical research a higher national priority. He is also a member of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Faculty of Medicine Advisory Committee.

Dr Roberts holds a BE in chemical engineering with honours from UNSW, an MBA from Macquarie University and a PhD from UNSW. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (FTSE) and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD).
