Barry Thomas is Cook Medical Vice President, Director - Asia Pacific and Managing Director of Cook Australia. Mr Thomas, who joined the Company in 2001, brings more than two decades of international leadership and expertise in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries to Cook Medical. He currently spearheads the world’s fastest growing region for the global company.
Widely recognised as a visionary at the forefront of trends in the medical device field, he most recently served as Global Director of the Aortic Intervention Division Strategic Business Unit responsible for launching Cook’s Endovascular Therapies Division in the US. In just two years he led the growth of the division to record revenues of over a quarter of a billion dollars Prior to taking on the US role, Mr Thomas, as Australian Sales and Marketing Director for Cook Australasian Pty Ltd, headed the Endovascular Strategic Business Unit operations with a primary focus on Australia, China, Japan and India.
Prior to joining Cook Medical, Mr Thomas was Regional Business Director at Johnson & Johnson Medical Pty Ltd where he spent more than 10 years. In his role at Johnson & Johnson, Mr Thomas was responsible for the coordination of the sales and marketing activities throughout South East Queensland and Northern NSW. During this time he led sales in the region at a growth rate of more than 16 percent.Â
In addition to his duties at Cook Medical, Mr. Thomas frequently authors medical articles and papers and presents around the world on various topics related to the field of medical devices. He is recognised as a valued commentator on: Innovation and R&D; Australia’s healthcare system and healthcare reform specific to medical devices; issues surrounding Asia Pacific healthcare industry growth; China-Australia business relationship; global financial crisis impact on the industry; and future benefits of a robust healthcare system.
Mr Thomas has a Bachelor or Commerce in Marketing and Information Systems from Griffith University in Brisbane.
