Dr Christine Bennett MBBS FRACP Master Paed

In March 2011, Dr Christine Bennett was appointed to the role of Professor and Dean, School of Medicine, Sydney, The University of Notre Dame Australia.  In 2006, Dr Bennett’s was appointed to the position of Chief Medical Officer for MBF Australia Limited and then Bupa Australia Group.

Dr Bennett has over 25 years of health industry experience in clinical care, strategic planning and senior management.

Dr Bennett’s experience has extended to a commercial consultant, as well as advisor in health and biotech industries for KPMG Australia.  She has held many Non-Executive Director roles for private and publicly listed companies, as well as government and charitable organisations.  Currently she is on the board of HeartWare, a medical device company listed on both NASDAQ and the ASX, is Chairman of Research Australia promoting health and medical research in Australia, Chair of the Bupa Health Foundation Steering Committee and a Non-Executive Director of Bupa Health Dialog. 

Dr Bennett is a specialist paediatrician, a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and has an active commitment to and involvement in medical professional issues, social policy and medical research.

In February 2008, Dr Bennett was appointed by the then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to be Chair of the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission that has provided advice to governments on a long term blue print for the future of the Australian health system.  The report was presented to the Government in June 2009.

In December 2010, Dr Bennett was appointed by the Australian Government to 2 Ministerial roles – the Diabetes Advisory Group and the Mental Health Expert Working Group.  Dr Bennett has also recently accepted a position on the Board of Obesity Australia. In February of 2012 Dr Bennett was appointed by NSW Health Minister Jillian Skinner to Chair the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network.
